Native American dancer Portland, OR — On the very day the Dream Act passed away in the Senate, people gathered in Portland to show that the indigenous cultures of the Americas are still very much alive. Dec. 18, 2010, was International Migrants Day, and local activists and community members commemorated the day with the Fifth Annual Indigenous Forum. Representatives of the indigenous peoples of North, Central, and South America shared the dances, ceremonies, and histories of their cultures, telling tales of oppression as well as of accomplishment and dogged survival.
